Once a week we do a family movie night. Usually, we rent something from Redbox, I pop up some popcorn, the kids each pick a candy to share at the dollar store, and we all watch together. Sometimes if it is a special treat, we will actually go to the movies and see something in the theater. We are huge LEGO fans, as you know, in this house. So, when The LEGO Batman Movie came out at the theaters, we went to see it. We all loved it, and I knew once it came out it would be a movie we would buy.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I met up with the great people from LEGO at Snap. I even was able to meet a Master Builder. I was so excited to connect with them so I can share with you, even more, LEGO crafts and fun.
Since we were anticipating the movie coming out on DVD, I thought I would plan an extra special movie night for at home. It only took a few extra minutes, but it made the night lots more fun.
To easily create a themed movie night at home, start with a color scheme that matches your movie. LEGO Batman makes me think yellow and black, so everything we had to eat was one of those two colors.
I started by popping up some popcorn as usual. For the candies, I chose Lemonheads, black Twizzlers Licorice, yellow Switzer Lemonade twists, and small Reese’s Pieces cups. I also bought some lemon pudding cups.
So we were not just eating junk food I got some yellow pineapple and bananas for a healthy snack.
I made easy “fancy” lemonade by adding ice and lemonade to clear cups, sliced up lemon slices and added them to the side, and used some black and white paper straws I had on hand.
We were so excited to watch the movie! But, since we had already watched it in the theater I thought it would be fun for the kids to build some LEGOs while we watched.
They each got a Brickheadz to build – Batgirl and The Joker.
Aren’t they cute? I want to get Batman and Robin to finish out our LEGO Batman collection.
I hope this gave you some ideas on how to easily make movie night a little more special. It is not something we do all the time, but it is fun to do once in a while for a movie we really love. Do you do movie night with your family?
The LEGO Batman Movie is available for digital download on iTunes and Amazon. You can also now purchase the DVD or Blu-Ray.

This is super cute! My son is 5 and just getting into LEGOs. I got him a set for Christmas last year and it has become one of his favorite toys! Thanks for the ideas. I’ve got my eye on those BrickHeadz! My nephews would love those.

Tonya,
We started with the Duplos when my son was really little and then upgraded to the regular LEGOs as he got older. This was the first time I had seen the Brickheadz. They are so, so cute!

We love LEGO Batman in this house. I love the idea of building the LEGO’s on the tray while they watch the movie. I have no idea how many LEGO’s I’ve lost in my carpet
Laura Silva says
Lindsay –
We luckily don’t have any carpet, but they get lost under the couch for sure! The trays are great for the big builds that take a few days to finish. I don’t have LEGOs all over my coffee table or the floor for days on end.
