Dollar Store Gift Ideas. Create meaningful, thoughtful, and inexpensive gifts for your loved ones this holiday with creative ideas from the dollar store.
Every year I host an annual cookie exchange party. My friends and I all bake cookies to swap, enjoy delicious food, and spend time with each other for the holiday season.
We have a contest to judge all the cookies and packaging. As the host, I put together prizes for each category. I try to find goodies that are not too expensive but are also thoughtful and useful.
Even though I use these dollar store gifts for prizes, they would work really well for neighbor or teacher gifts, or just about any adult on your list!

3 Dollar Store Gift Ideas for Christmas
My two favorite places to purchase dollar store gifts are Dollar Tree and Bullseye’s Playground (formerly the Dollar Spot) at Target.
You can find so many cute things at both places, that with a little imagination, you can create unique and thoughtful gifts that don’t break the bank. I tried to match the prize for the cookie exchange vote to the category we were voting on.
The Gift of Gift Wrapping Supplies
Cookie Exchange Category: Most Creative Packaging
The prize for most creative packaging was everything you need to wrap gifts for the holiday season. Around the holidays, practical gifts are always in style.
Gift Includes:
Everything came from Dollar Tree. Total cost: $7.50
Holiday Crafting Gift
Cookie Exchange Category: Most Creative Treat
One of my favorite places to get holiday decor and crafting goodies may surprise you – Target at Bullseye’s Playground. They always have a good selection of seasonal decor and craft supplies to whip up something creative.
Gift Includes:
- Fabric Banner
- Glitter
- Wooden Embellishments
- Twine
- Stickers
Everything was purchased at Target. Total cost: $10.00
Helpful tip: If you choose a popular theme for your party (like this year’s buffalo plaid), it is easy to find things that coordinate. Even though my party supplies were from Oriental Trading, the buffalo plaid banner from Target matched the theme perfectly.

Hot Chocolate Gift
Cookie Exchange Category: Best Tasting Treat
This gift includes some yummy treats to enjoy this holiday season. I started with clear mugs from Dollar Tree.
These would be perfect to gift as-is, but I wanted to spruce them up a bit. I created a design in Cricut Design Space and added a vinyl design to both mugs. I used some scraps of white vinyl I had left over from another project.
Cricut Design Space File: Baby It’s Cold Outside
Gift Includes:
- Clear Mugs with White Vinyl
- Hot Chocolate Package (placed inside the mugs)
- Hershey’s Hugs
- Peppermint Sticks
- Piroulines
I used some holiday zip-top bags to repackage the candy in, but you could leave them as-is in their original packaging if you wanted.
Everything was purchased at Dollar Tree. Total cost: $6 (does not include white vinyl and zip-top bags)
Dollar Tree has a great selection of gift bags, as well. I purchased 3 gift bags to wrap up the prizes and used tissue paper I had on hand at home.
Everyone loved their prizes, and I didn’t break the bank when I was shopping. The total cost was $26.50 for all three gifts packaged up.
Tell me, what are your favorite ways to save on gift-giving?
