I wanted to check in and write a post about what to expect here on Laura’s Crafty Life throughout this next year (or at least the first half of the year until I reevaluate how it is all going)!
Get Organized
Home organization projects. This is what I am working on and will be working on, so it makes perfect sense to blog about it.
Want to hear something strange about me? I am a perfectionist and a Type A personality person. I crave order. I am GREAT at organizing other people. Myself? Not so much. I guess there are more sentimental/emotional/mental attachments to my own things.
I can easily organize my husband’s stuff, my kid’s stuff, and even just general household stuff, but my things or things I am in charge of I struggle with. The whole house will be picked up but I will still have my piles of papers or my craft room will look like a tornado ran through it!
I firmly believe in the adage “A place for everything and everything in its place.” If there is not a designated spot for something it will just become a pile of clutter!
So one of my goals this year is to find a place for EVERYTHING in my house. No button, paperclip, or sock will be excused from this. And since I am pretty good at organizing, I thought I would share what works for me.
And even better – I am only allowing myself a budget of $20 per month for organizing. We don’t have a lot of extra money right now, so I am going to have to get creative, think outside the box, and use what we already have.
I would LOVE to have a pantry full of glass containers with each item nicely organized, but those puppies are expensive and I just can’t do it right now! Hopefully, some of you can relate and will benefit from my frugal organizational posts.
Home Management Binder
You can expect to see a whole series of posts on my home management binder, filing, paper clutter, and bill organization. My system may or may not work for you, but I am always curious how others manage their households.
Party
Let’s party! I tend to go a little overboard for birthdays and such, mostly because it is so much fun! I love to plan parties and decorate cakes. My littlest one is turning 2 this month and we will be doing some fun stuff for her birthday.
Photo Organization
I am going to attempt to tackle my photo organization. This will include digital files, negatives, and prints. Especially if you blog or have kids this can be a particularly overwhelming task!
DIY
Home improvement projects and DIYs. I am hoping to get our countertops tiled, the kitchen backsplash put up, and maybe even some flooring re-dos.
I am hoping to tackle the hideous wall treatment that was done on our bathroom before we moved in (6 years ago). And I am sure more items will be added to the list as budget and time permits.
Crafts
Time to craft! (Were you getting worried I wouldn’t be doing any more crafting with all the organizational projects I have up my sleeve?)
The main reason I am hoping to declutter, downsize, manage my time better, and simplify is to have more time to do the things I love – spend quality time with my family and friends, and of course, craft!
Right now I feel like I am barely staying afloat. I am constantly stressed out about my house and tripping over things. I feel like I am constantly picking up and putting away and cleaning.
Yesterday I did a whopping 8 loads of laundry. I said 8, people! Granted, I hadn’t done any for about a week, but still. I gotta get some of my house stuff under control. Then I won’t feel so guilty about spending time on crafts when piles of crap are staring me in the face.
Looking forward to traveling on this journey with you this year! I would love to hear if you have any suggestions for me. Is there anything you want to see? Is there any project you loved that you want me to elaborate on and do more of? I can’t make any promises, but I sure will try. :)
