Today I’m SO excited to be at SNAP Conference in Salt Lake City surrounded by 500 other talented crafty bloggers. These women are amazing and oh so talented! It is so much fun seeing old friends and meeting some new faces, too! To celebrate with you, I teamed up with Abbey from The Cards We Drew and a large group of bloggers to create Crafts in a SNAP {15 Minute Craft Ideas} so that anyone, whether just starting out or a seasoned pro, can learn to create fun and handmade items in no time at all! Check out my tutorial on how to create washi tape gift card holders coming up, then scroll down below and be sure to check out some of what my blogging friends have to offer! Have fun and get creative!
Today, I am going to show you how to make these quick and easy gift card holders. I don’t know about you, but I love to give gift cards. Sometimes that is all I give, and sometimes I pair them up with some fun little goodies. But the gift card holders you receive from the store with the card are not all that exciting. Especially if I am giving just a gift card, I want it to be presented in a fun or pretty way.
Supplies needed:
- tags
- washi tape – various colors and styles
- twine or ribbon
- scissors (optional)
To start you are going to choose the washi tapes you want to use. I used about 5 to 6 different styles per tag. You could easily modify the design of the tag by using one style of washi tape or simply two coordinating styles. Once you have your washi tapes selected, line them up side to side. Use this as a guide to cut your first tag. You want to cut off the top portion that has the hole.
Now, starting on the backside of the full tag, you will start wrapping your washi tape along the bottom edge. When you reach the front, match your cut tag with the full tag.
Continue wrapping your washi tape around the tag and overlap the ends on the back side. You can either rip the tape or cut it to have a cleaner look. By wrapping your washi tape around both layers of tags you are creating a pocket.
Continue wrapping your washi tape around the two pieces of tag until you reach the top of the cut tag.
Note: You may need to trim a little excess off the top of the cut tag if your washi tape doesn’t exactly meet the top edge. Now, you can add a piece of twine or ribbon to the top hole of the tag. Slide your gift card in, and you are ready to give.
You can coordinate your tapes to match your gift card or the theme of your gift. It is a fun and easy way to use up some of those washi tapes you have been collecting!

P.S. I usually purchase all my tags, washi tape and twine from Pick Your Plum (affiliate link). They have daily deals, so be sure to sign up for their emails and check back often! I usually share when washi tape or twine is on sale on my Facebook page.

So cute. I’d like to make these with Christmas tapes, make the hanging tape a bit longer, knot it, and call it a great gift card holder/Christmas tree ornament. It would be great to keep those little cards from getting lost in wrapping paper!
