I will be honest. Most Valentine’s Days my husband and I don’t usually do much. We might go out to dinner, but usually we just hang out with the kids. The first year after we became parents we actually had a date night where we went to Denny’s with our five month old son. We received a gift card for Christmas so it was the perfect time to use it to go out to dinner. Denny’s on Valentine’s? Romantic, right?!
However, with that being said, my husband and I are coming up on our 10 year wedding anniversary in April. We have been together even longer than that – almost 13 years to be exact. That is a long time to be together! And our lives have changed dramatically from when we first met. We bought a house, got married, and had two kids.
It can be hard to keep the sparks alive when real life is constantly happening all around you. Making your marriage a priority takes time. And sometimes you can get stuck in a rut with your day-to-day life always being the same. To reignite some of the passion and closeness in our relationship, I thought it would be fun to surprise my husband with a little date night gift basket. And although I say the gift basket is for him, it is really for both of us.
To start with I headed to my favorite store, Target, to see what I could find to include in my basket. I will admit, guys are hard to shop for. I sort of think finding a romantic gift for a woman can be easy. Flowers or jewelry are usually a safe bet. However, finding something romantic for that special man in your life can be a little harder. But, I did have fun shopping in Target for my husband. (Usually, I shop there to find cute stuff for myself or the kids.)
I started by checking The Dollar Spot. They usually have the greatest containers and baskets. Sure enough I found the perfect burlap bag. It was not too girly and would be perfect to put all my goodies in. I wanted to add a little pop of color, so I found a dish towel. (I will admit it matches my kitchen, so ultimately it will be used in there.)
Next, I found some things to me that would create a romantic date night for us at home. We can’t always get a babysitter and go out, so planning date nights at home really helps to keep our relationship fresh! I found sparkling cider, champagne glasses, strawberry truffle candies, a matching scented candle, and K-Y® Love . (You can find these products in the feminine care aisle in case you were wondering!)
I created a free printable I am sharing with all of you to print out and attach to your gift. It is a little silly, but I think it turned out pretty cute!
Roses are red.
Violets are blue.
Let’s ignite the sparks,
Between me and you.
Start by assembling your basket or bag. I placed the towel inside and spread it out over the edges so you can see the color.
I added each item into the gift basket. I always start with the biggest items and add in the smaller items around it. This included the sparkling cider, two champagne glasses and candle. Instead of simply placing the bag of truffles into the basket, I opened it up and added them to the champagne glasses. Add the K-Y® Love and the basket is complete!
Print out the tag, cut it out and attach with ribbon. I found this coordinating ribbon at The Dollar Spot as well.
I created three different labels – mint, grey and pink. Each color prints separately with three labels per page. These labels should work with almost any gift you put together!

Tie the tag on your basket and you are all set to give it to your special someone!
K-Y® Love is exclusively available to Target for Valentine’s Day. Right now, there is a special Cartwheel offer to get K-Y® Love for 10% off from 2/1/2015 to 2/14/2015). Learn more about K-Y® Love Sensuality or K-Y® Love Passion.
So now that I have shared a gift idea with you, tell me what special gifts have you given (or received) for the special man in your life?

Your gift basket turned out great! I actually looked at those burlap bags. Clever idea to line with the dish towel. :)

Thank you Sarah! This was a fun one to put together. Coming up with at home date night ideas can be tricky sometimes, but we don’t always have a babysitter to go out. Thank you about the dish towel! I just thought it was such a pretty color (sorry, manly color!). ;)
xo,
Laura

Oh what a brilliant idea. Shopping at the Dollar Spot is a great way to keep your presents under control, and this is a perfect “manly” basket to accompany all your items. I love the printables – I may have to use those this year! #client
