Today, I am going to teach you how to create a patriotic wreath easily and inexpensively with supplies from the Dollar Tree. This wreath costs only $5 and takes less than 10 minutes to make!
If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know I love wreaths, Dollar Tree, and simple crafts. I have created a new wreath from Dollar Tree supplies for almost every season.
Even if I don’t do a ton of decorating for a particular holiday, I always have a wreath on my front door. To me, it is like a special little hello when we have guests over.
How to Make a Patriotic Wreath
Supplies:
- Metal Wreath Form
- Tinsel Garland, 2 Strands
- Door Hanger
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
Start by using a little dab of hot glue on the back of the wreath form to secure the garland.
Then, start wrapping the garland around the wreath form. You want to keep some tension as you wrap, but you can space it out however you like.
The main objective is to cover the metal form completely with garland. I was able to cover my wreath with only 2 strands of garland.
Once you get to the end of the garland, secure it with hot glue on the backside. Continue gluing and wrapping as many strands of garland as you need to cover your wreath form. You may need more or less garland depending on the size of your wreath.
Find one of the cross braces of the wreath form.
Use a little bit of hot glue to secure the door hanger to the front of the wreath.
Then, fluff up the garland around the door hanger to cover any exposed areas of the wreath.
I chose not to add a ribbon hanger to this one and simply hang it from my door using a wreath hook.

I love wreaths and the Dollar Tree also. I know where I’m going tomorrow. Would this wreath work outside? Our son died in a car accident 11 years ago and I always put a wreath on his cross every 2 months.

Danna,
I am so sorry to hear that about your son. I don’t think it will hold up very well outside in the sun, wind, and rain. The tinsel garland used to cover the wreath fades pretty quickly when exposed to direct sunlight. You could try spraying it with some kind of UV sealer, but I have never tried that and I am not sure how well it would work.
xo,
