My sweet friend, Laura Kelly, has recently launched a whole new collection of dies with Sizzix and Ellison Education. It is the Pet Shop collection and it is completely adorable!
Laura sent me some of the cut out shapes to play around with, along with some Aleene’s tacky glue and some paper items from DCWV. I wanted to think outside of the box to show how versatile her dies truly are. I can see so many uses for them outside of flashcards! I started out by making a burlap banner for my daughter’s room.
Burlap Banner
Supplies needed:
- Burlap
- Pet Shop Flashcard Die Set
- Aleene’s tacky glue
- Craft gems
- Glue dots
- Glitter glue (mine are Studio G, from Michael’s)
- Ribbon
Start by cutting your burlap sheet into four pieces. Notch out the bottoms to create a banner shape.
Cut out the dragonfly shape using the pet shop die. Embellish your dragonfly however you like. I glued craft gems on the head and embellished the wings with glitter glue. Allow to dry.
I used a glue dot on the head of each dragonfly to adhere it to the burlap. Punch holes in the burlap and thread ribbon through it.
My daughter wanted it to be hung on her barbie house.
Gift Tags
The next thought that came to mind was to create gift tags. The little animals are so cute! I created two different gift tags.
For the first one, I use the fish bowl and crab die cuts. I added some of the adhesive cork paper from DCWV to the bottom of the fish bowl.
It is self-adhesive and I thought it looks a little like sand. I cut a curved edge on the top, adhered it to the bowl and trimmed the excess off the back.
I added googly eyes to the crab (because everything is better with googly eyes) and slipped him in. I punched a hole in the top and threaded some baker’s twine through the top.
For the second tag, I used the terrarium and lizard die cuts. I added a strip of DCWV glitter paper to the top of the terrarium with Aleene’s tacky glue, and trimmed it to fit.
For the lizard, I embellished around the edge using a green Sharpie marker and some craft gems for the eyes. I slid him in, punched a hole and added some ribbon to the tag.
Both of these tags were perfect to make my gifts extra special.
I let my son use some of the supplies and he created this super cute frog in a bug jar. Those jumbo googly eyes have to be my favorite in projects!
