How to Use Offset in Cricut Design Space. Step by step tutorial on how to use the offset tool in Cricut Design Space plus a video tutorial.
Welcome to Lesson 12 on Cricut Design Space Basics. Today, we are talking about using the offset in Cricut Design Space.
The offset feature creates a layer that is proportionally smaller or larger than your design. You can use this feature on both images and text.

How to Use the Offset Tool in Cricut Design Space
Offset is most often used to create a shadow or outline around your design. I use it to create stickers with my Cricut.
How to Use Offset with Images
Start by opening a new project in Cricut Design Space. Click on Images and add any image to your canvas.

Click on the Offset tool. You can use the slider tool or type in the measurement you want for the size of the offset.
The largest offset you can use is 1 inch from all edges.
You can also set the edges to be rounded or square depending on the look you are going for.
Weld Offsets
Weld Offsets are selected by default when you add a text box, a design with multiple layers, or multiple objects is selected. When selected it will merge all layers for the selected objects. This means that there will be one offset layer for the entire image or text.
If you want to work with each offset layer separately, unclick the box next to weld offsets. This will create a separate offset layer for each layer of the design or each letter of the text.
How to Change the Color of Offset
You can easily change the color of the offset by clicking on the offset layer and then changing the color box next to the drop-down under Operation.
I usually choose white when making stickers, but occasionally I will want a background for the sticker with a different color. You can play around with this feature to completely change the look of your sticker.
If your offset ends up with an opening you don’t want, you can easily fix it by using the contour tool. This can happen when your original design has a lot of negative space.

The other option for getting rid of a hole in the offset layer is to increase the size of the offset until all the holes are filled. Often, for me, this option is not ideal, as then the border is just too big!
To create a sticker using the image and offset, select both layers and then click Flatten to create a Print then Cut image.
How to Use Offset with Text
Open a new project in Cricut Design Space. Click on Text and add a text box.
Note: Cricut recently had an update, so now you can type directly into the text box to change the word. Double-click inside the text box to change the word TEXT to whatever you want.
Then, click the Offset tool. From there you can change the size of the offset, whether or not the corners are round or sharp, and whether to weld the offset layers.
You can change the color of the offset layer by selecting the material colors box and changing the color.
How to Create a Sticker Using Offset
Once you have added your image or text and created your offset, you will need to flatten your image to create a Print Then Cut image as a sticker.
Select all the layers of your image including the offset. Then click Flatten.
You will see in the layers panel that your image now says Print then Cut.
How to Add a Pattern to the Offset Layer
Start by changing the offset layer to Print then Cut under the Operation drop-down menu.
Click on the color box and then select Pattern under print type.
Once you click on Apply when using the Offset tool, you can no longer edit it. If you make a mistake, you will need to create a new offset.
