How to Use Align in Cricut Design Space. Step-by-step tutorial on how to use the align tool in Cricut Design Space plus a video tutorial.
Welcome to Lesson 13 on Cricut Design Space Basics. Today, we are talking about using the align tool in Cricut Design Space.
The align tool allows you to align two or more objects to the left, right, top, or bottom. You can also align the center of the objects vertically or horizontally. You can use the align tool to distribute the objects evenly vertically or horizontally.

How to Use the Align Tool in Cricut Design Space
When you are creating a project in which you have multiple objects or text, you often want to be able to line them up perfectly. The align tool allows you to do this.
Start by opening a new project in Cricut Design Space. You will find the Align tool in the Edit Bar at the top of the screen on the Desktop.

How to Use Align
Let’s start by adding a couple of shapes to the canvas. We will add a circle and a star.
RELATED: How to Add Shapes in Cricut Design Space
Select both shapes by dragging and holding down your mouse over both shapes, or clicking Select All in the Edit Bar.
Click on the Align tool at the top of the page. You can see there are several options to both align and distribute your images.
Align Left, Align Right, Align Top, or Align Bottom, all work similarly. Depending on which one you choose, the objects will move to be aligned on whichever edge you choose.
So for example, if we choose Align Top, you can see the star and circle are aligned at the topmost edge of the topmost object which is the circle.
How to Use Center
However, they are not centered. To do this you will select Center Horizontally, Center Vertically, or Center depending on which option you need for your design. Choosing Center means you are centering BOTH vertically and horizontally at the same time.
The align and center tools work on both text and shapes. You can see below how I was able to center the word “circle” on the circle using the Center option.
How to Use Distribute
Distribute evenly distributes the objects so they are evenly spaced horizontally (left to right) or vertically (top to bottom).
Note: When using distribute, it will only space the objects evenly, not align them.
We will start by adding some shapes to the canvas – a circle, star, and heart. Often, you will use distribute in combination with the other align tools.
Select all three shapes. Then, select Distribute Horizontally. Now the circle, star, and heart are all spaced apart evenly. To further line them all up, select Center Vertically.
Helpful Tips:
- When using align, the objects will align to the furthest object that you are aligning. For example, if you are using Align Top – the objects or text will move to the top-most edge of your top-most object.
- When using distribute, the objects will distribute evenly between the outermost edges of your selection.
- Horizontal – the objects will be spaced evenly from left to right.
- Vertical – the objects will be spaced evenly from top to bottom.
- To evenly space both rows and columns of objects, please check out my YouTube video below. I go into much more detail on exactly how to do it.
