Halloween Movie Night. Host a spooky, fun Halloween movie night at home to watch your favorite creepy films.
This week has been all about Halloween movies. Watching scary movies is one of my favorite things to do with my daughter. I can’t watch anything that is TOO frightening, but I like jump scares or a good thriller.
I purchased some supplies from Dollar Tree to host a family movie night at home.
How to Host a Halloween Movie Night
Hosting a movie night at home can be a fun way to bring the whole family together for a night in. Pick up some sweet treats and your favorite Halloween movie, and create a new family tradition.
Choose Your Movies
The first thing to do is decide which movie to watch. I rounded up my favorite Halloween movies. There are 31 horror movies and 31 not-so-scary, so you can potentially watch a different Halloween movie (or two) every night in October!
Family Favorite Halloween Movies
There are so many great choices for classic Halloween movies. These are some of our favorites that are great for kids of all ages.
- Hocus Pocus
- Haunted Mansion
- It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
- Corpse Bride
- A Nightmare Before Christmas
- Monster House
- Casper
- Halloweentown
- The Addams Family
I created a free printable Halloween movie bucket list you can download and print at home. Have every family member write down their favorites and pick one or two to watch.
Choose Your Yummy Snacks
Every movie night should have popcorn! I found some Halloween buckets at Dollar Tree for ours. Skeleton tongs make for a fun way to grab the food.
To the other bucket, I added cotton candy.
You can’t go wrong with candy. I added some rub-ons to a clear plastic container to make ours extra creepy.
Then, I added some black shredded paper and filled it with gummy candies and creepy fingers.
For the lollipops, I hot-glued a Styrofoam ball into small pumpkin buckets and poked the lollipops into the Styrofoam.
I covered the styrofoam with more black shredded paper.
Lastly, I filled the plastic coffin with zombie Sour Patch Kids, but you can fill it with any candy.
Other snack ideas: candy apples, candy corn, gummy worms, mummy dogs, cutie “pumpkins,” ghost bananas, popcorn balls, or Halloween snack mix.
If you don’t want to do all these extra things, grabbing some Halloween-themed plates and napkins can set an eerie theme.
Choose Your Drinks
I made our favorite Halloween punch, but you can serve any drink. I purchased the skeleton hand glasses for our drinks.
We also really love sparkling cider apple punch.
Making a special drink can make any regular night feel extra enjoyable.
Decorate
As you know, Dollar Tree is my favorite place for holiday crafts and decorations. They have so many things you can use to decorate at a very affordable price.
Play some spooky music while you get everything set up.
I added some creepy cloth and a spider web table runner to our living room coffee table.
I added a couple of decorative pumpkins and signs. On the chalkboard coffin sign, I wrote “Spooky Halloween Movie Night.”
Add string lights or any other Halloween decorations around your house to the table.
Place everything on the table and watch your favorite ghostly movies. Once the movie night ends, you can add the special things you purchased to your Halloween decor. Happy Halloween!
Another fun idea is to use a projector to watch the movie outside. This is a great idea if you have a big group.
Obviously, you don’t have to do all these extra things, but these little touches can make it extra special. These are all great ideas for decorating if you decide to have a party.
Have you ever planned a movie night at home?
