Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. It is so fun to dress up in Halloween costumes, carve pumpkins, roast pumpkin seeds and go trick or treating with the kids. I get to experience the fun all over again now that I am a mom. Both of my kids enjoy dressing up. On any given day if you were to come over to my house, there is a good chance my daughter will be in a princess dress. It is so cute!
As a mom, I like to get the biggest bang for my buck. If there is an opportunity for the kids to wear their Halloween costumes more than once, I sort of feel like I am winning out. I think it can be really fun to have a get together with friends to do a Halloween costume dress up play date. The kids get to wear their costumes, eat yummy food, and do a craft project. The moms get their money’s worth out of the costumes and a chance to catch up and chat. Win, win for everyone!
What is your child going to be for Halloween this year?
This year, my daughter decided to be Sofia the First from the popular show on Disney Junior. I thought it would be the perfect theme for celebrating our fun play date. I went to Walmart to purchase all the adorable Sofia the First party gear. We got plates, cups, napkins, a tablecloth, amulets, crowns and swirl decorations (these were my favorite!). Having everything coordinated made decorating for our mini-party a snap!
While we were at Walmart, we also picked up this beautiful Sofia costume. It came with a Clover bunny wrist wrap and an amulet necklace.
If you watch Sofia at all, then you know the amulet is so special. I think it may be my daughter’s favorite part of the costume. She wears it all the time!
It was supposed to be bad weather the day of our play date, so I did everything inside. It was pretty fun seeing all those little cuties crammed around our kitchen table!
I used all the supplies I purchased from Walmart and was done decorating in about 10 minutes.
I added a floral and pumpkin centerpiece and some pumpkin table scatter to make our party fit our Halloween theme.
When the children arrived, we did a quick pumpkin decorating craft. I cut out pumpkin shapes and pumpkin face pieces with my Cricut Explore. Here is the cut file for you to use with your Cricut Explore: Pumpkin Face Craft
The kids colored their pumpkins and glued the faces on. This was a great craft that was age appropriate for all the kids (some with a little more help from mom.)
Then, we all had lunch. All of it was Halloween or princess themed food. We had pumpkin cookies,
crown shaped sandwiches,
black olive spider deviled eggs,
and princess fruit wands. I cut the watermelon was cut with a butterfly cookie cutter.
The kids and moms all had a lot of fun. I loved how easy it was to put this play date together! The hardest part was cleaning my house!
