Dollar Tree Shamrock Wall Hanging. Dress up a wooden shamrock from Dollar Tree to make a lucky wall hanging for St. Patrick’s Day.
Do you decorate for St. Patrick’s Day or go straight to spring decor? I like to put up some decorations in my dining room on our gallery wall shelves and my tiered tray. And, of course, I like to hang something on my front door. You all know how much I love wreaths!
Today, I will show you how to dress up a wooden shamrock from Dollar Tree.
How to Make a Dollar Tree Shamrock Wall Hanging
This project is very easy! It takes a little time for the paint and mod podge to dry, but really, anyone can do this craft.
Supplies
- Wooden Shamrock
- Green Paint
- Patterned Paper
- Mod Podge
- Ribbon (optional)
Paint the Shamrock
Start by painting the shamrock green. I used FolkArt Acrylic Paint in 227 Bright Green. Remove the hanging string before you paint.
Don’t worry about painting the hearts. These will be covered with patterned paper. Allow the paint to dry.
Add Patterned Paper
Place the patterned paper on one of the hearts. Use your finger to rub along the edge of the heart to create a pattern to cut out.
I used a gingham patterned paper, but a shamrock paper would be really cute, as well!
I found it easier to cut on the white side of the paper because the heart was easier to see.
Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge to the wooden heart. Place the paper heart on top and smooth down. Use a brayer to get out any air bubbles.
Repeat these steps for the other two hearts.

Seal with Mod Podge
Paint the entire wooden shamrock with a thin layer of Mod Podge. This will seal the paint and the paper.
Note: If you hang your shamrock outdoors, use Mod Podge for outdoors or spray with an outdoor sealer.
Add Ribbon (Optional)
I replaced the twine hanger that came with the shamrock.
I thought it looked a little plain, so I gathered some green ribbon and twine scraps to make a bow and hot-glued it to the middle of the shamrock.
Now I can hang this cute shamrock on my front door, add to my gallery wall shelves, or place it my mantel.
This project only cost me $1.25 since I already had the paint, paper, and Mod Podge on hand. You can’t beat that!
