In July, I shared this tutorial over at Today’s Creative Blog. With Labor Day coming up, I thought you might be interested in doing some decorating for your house or a party! You can see how I used it at our All American party I threw with a friend for the 4th of July!
This craft project is quick and easy. You can easily adapt it for any occasion by simply changing the stars to whatever shape fits your theme – pumpkins for Halloween, evergreen trees for Christmas, snowflakes for winter, or flip-flops for summer. The possibilities are endless!
DIY Patriotic Paper Garland
Supplies needed: (contains affiliate links)
- Patterned Paper
- Cutting machine (I used my Cricut), scissors or paper punch
- Sewing machine and thread
This project is really quite simple. Start by cutting star shapes using your die-cut machine. I used my Cricut. I cut out two sizes of stars. (If you do not have a craft cutting machine you could cut the stars out by hand or use a star-shaped paper punch.)
Once you have all your stars cut out take two stars – one larger and one smaller and layer them together. Hold them while you start sewing.
As you stitch the stars together, be sure to hold onto the star behind the one you are sewing and pull slightly. This will keep your thread from knotting up and will allow you to have some thread between each set of stars. Once they are all sewn together, you will “fluff” the top star to make them look 3-D.
I made a second, longer garland, using only one star at a time instead of having two that were layered together.
Do you have fun plans for Labor Day weekend?
