DIY Disney Castle Art. Create your own beautiful rainbow Disney castle canvas easily with your Cricut machine and glitterific Plaid paints.
We are huge Disney fans at our house. We took a special trip to Disneyland to celebrate my son’s 10th birthday. It was our first time going as a family. We had the best time. One of my favorite parts of both Disneyland and Disneyworld are the castles. I thought it would be fun to create a DIY Disney castle art on a canvas.

DIY Disney Castle Art
Supplies:

- Cricut Machine
- Vinyl
- Transfer Tape
- Mod Podge
- Paint Brushes
- Acrylic Paints – a rainbow of colors
- FolkArt Glitterific Paints
Create Stencil
I started by creating a castle template in Cricut Design Space. I started by adding a 12″ x 12″ square to use as a template for my canvas. You can resize the square to the same size as your canvas. Then, resize the castle to fit inside the square/rectangle. The perfect castle design was already included as one of the images. I used Castle #MB427BC from the Disney® – Princess Believing in Dreams Image Set.

Once I had my design how I wanted it, I used my Cricut to cut out the design from vinyl. Instead of using the cut piece, we will be using the negative space as a stencil for the canvas.
Carefully remove the castle shape from the backing paper making sure to leave all the little windows on the paper and not pull them off while removing the main shape.
Cover the design with transfer tape to move the design to the canvas.
Use a brayer tool or scraper to make sure the design adheres to the canvas well.
To get crisp lines on the design, use a thin layer of Mod Podge to seal around the edges of the vinyl to the canvas. Allow it to dry for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Paint the Disney Castle
Then, start painting in the castle. I used a rainbow of acrylic paint colors I had on hand. When adding a new color, go back and add a small amount of the previous color to your paintbrush and blend the area between the two colors. Continue this process until the entire castle is painted in.
Allow the canvas to dry for about 10 minutes. It would have been a great piece of art as is, but when I think of Disney, I think sparkles and magic! The new glitterific paints from Plaid are perfect for adding just the right amount of sparkle. I went over each area with the clear hologram glitterific paint and a foam brush. On the orange and gold parts of the castle, I added the gold glitterific paint. On the blue section, I added blue glitterific paint. You have to brush it on kind of thick for it work correctly.
Allow the canvas to dry for a couple of minutes and then carefully peel up the vinyl from the canvas. I used my weeding tool to peel back the corner of the small pieces. Then, I used my tweezers to pull the small pieces of vinyl up without ruining the paint. Go back and touch up any areas that need it.
I love how sparkly the castle looks. The pictures don’t do it justice! Now, I have a fun art piece to remind us of our wonderful trip and to keep the magic of Disney alive in our house.
