Every year my daughter’s birthday sneaks up on me. Not that I don’t know it is coming, but with the holidays, I don’t have as much time to focus on it as I do for my son’s in October. Her birthday is mid-January, so I typically end up with about three weeks to do everything I want to do for her party. Normally I try to allow for six weeks to plan a birthday party since I tend to go all out.
This month is extra busy because my husband’s birthday is also in January at the end of the month. Usually we just have a dinner date, but since this is a big birthday for him (shh – he is turning 40!), I am planning a party for him as well!
I used to try to make cute scrapbook type invitations for the kid’s birthdays, but they can be costly and time consuming. For the past few years, I have been making digital invitations. It goes a lot quicker and I have them printed on regular photo paper, so they end up being really inexpensive for handmade customized invitations. You could also print them at home or take the design to a copy shop.
This year my daughter requested a princess party that includes all the Disney princesses. Here is the invitation I made for her party:
The background floral design is from Pixel Scrapper. I also created the scalloped circle shapes in Photoshop from a template found at Pixel Scrapper that I color matched to the floral paper. The princess design was one I found online by doing a Google search.
I put the invitation together using My Memories. I am getting better at Photoshop, but I am really familiar with the My Memories software and it goes a little quicker for me to do design work.

Now, I just have to plan the decorations and food. I have some ideas for games that I have to try to get finished (okay, started) this weekend!
