Declutter Challenge. This year I am participating in White House, Black Shutter’s 40 bags in 40 days challenge to declutter my home. #40bagsin40days
Every year, Ann Marie at White House, Black Shutters does a 40 bags in 40 days challenge that coincides with lent. And while I don’t actually observe lent, I think this is a great project to take on! Basically each day, for 40 days, you declutter at least one bag of stuff from your home. It can be trash, items to donate or give away, or even items to save for a yard sale. But the whole idea is to get the clutter OUT! The challenge starts today and runs through April 4th. Sundays are a free day where you don’t have to declutter anything.
I have done a declutter challenge on a smaller scale once before here on the blog. It was so freeing to have the stuff finally out of my house. And posting about it on the blog helped to keep me accountable. I participated last year in this 40 bags in 40 days challenge. I didn’t post about it on the blog, but I got rid of so much stuff.
If you head over to Ann Marie’s blog post telling you about the challenge you can find printables, and helpful articles on what to declutter if you don’t know where to start.
As we are focusing this month on installing our new floors an interesting thing has happened. We have been forced to move all of our furniture and belongings out of each room to install the floors. Then, when we are done, we have to move it all back. And you know what? I am finding there is so much I simply do not want in my space anymore. I either don’t love it or it doesn’t really fit in with our house or lifestyle anymore. So, for me, this project will be perfect to give me the extra push I need to get all the things we no longer need or love out of the house!
I have been working on decluttering and getting rid of piles in our house for a long time now. I feel like I am still playing catch up from when I was not feeling like myself over a year ago. Things piled up. Decisions about what to do with our stuff got put off. And if you have kids, you know if you put off dealing with the mountains of things they can bring home or acquire or even outgrow it can pile up and become overwhelming so quickly!
I will be sharing updates on how I am doing with the challenge on Instagram and at least once or twice throughout the challenge here on the blog. If you share on social media be sure to use the hashtag #40bagsin40days to follow along with everyone else! It can be very motivating to see other people getting stuff done.
Have you participated in this challenge before? Do you plan to participate this year?
