Cub Scout Keychains. Make these Cub Scout keychains as a den or pack craft to celebrate each child’s rank. You can make one or all of them.
I am participating once again in Craft Lightning. Bloggers get together to create quick craft projects that take 15 minutes or less – all with the same theme. This month’s edition is scout crafts! Since my son is in Cub Scouts, I thought it would be fun to create some keychains for each rank of Cub Scouts. You can make one or all of them, depending on how far along your Cub Scout is on the advancement trail.

Supplies needed:
I found all my supplies at JoAnns. To start, cut a length of silky cord approximately 11 inches long. Fuse the ends to keep them from fraying by using a lighter to quickly melt the ends.
Note: Lighters should only be used by adults or older children with adult supervision.
Thread the cord through the lanyard hook.
Start threading both ends of the cord through your pony beads. I chose colors to match the Cub Scout badges the children receive as they advance.

Add alpha beads to spell out the rank – Bobcat, Tiger, Wolf, Bear or Webelos.
Add more pony beads in the same colors as you started with. Tie a knot at the end of the beads to keep them secure.
Trim any excess cord and fuse the ends with the lighter so the cord does not fray (again, this step should be done by an adult).
This would be a fun den or pack project for all the Cub Scouts to do. You can add all the lanyard hooks to one keychain ring as the boys advance through Cub Scouts.

What size silky cord works best with this size bead? 2 or 2.5 mm?

Melinda,
I haven’t seen the different sizes of silky cord so I am not sure. This is the one that I used in the post: Silky Cord.
