31 Nights of Halloween Movies List. Have a movie night every night for October leading up to Halloween. Includes kid-friendly and not so kid-friendly choices!
My daughter and I LOVE Halloween. We both love to decorate and watch all the spooky things.
I have compiled some of my favorite Halloween flicks you can watch throughout the spooky season for every day of October.
31 Nights of Halloween Movie List
Grab your popcorn, and let’s get scared! I created two lists of movies. The first includes mostly kid-friendly choices you can watch with the whole family. The second consists mainly of horror films that are inappropriate for children (or possibly even teens).
These Halloween movie lists are in no particular order. I did not rate them in any way. The order is entirely random.
When my daughter was younger, I used Common Sense Media to learn more about movies before I watched them to see if they were age-appropriate. It tells you what parents and kids think about the movie and gives a good overview of things you might find inappropriate for your kids.

Horror Movie Series
Want even more scary movies? Many of the horror movies are part of a franchise. Instead of watching a different film every night, you can watch horror marathons in October.
Many people have strong opinions about which movie in the series is the best, but I included the first movie in the franchise on the list for the most part.
- A Nightmare on Elm Street features Freddy Krueger and includes six movies.
- Halloween features Michael Myers and consists of thirteen movies.
- The Conjuring movie franchise currently includes eight movies, including all of the Conjuring, Annabelle, and the Nun movies.
- Friday the 13th features Jason Voorhees and includes twelve films.
- Scream features Ghostface and has included six movies, with another in production. Wes Craven directed the first four films.
- Child’s Play features Chucky, a serial killer doll. It includes eight movies.
- Saw features John “Jigsaw” Kramer and includes eleven films.
- Texas Chainsaw Massacre features Leatherface and includes nine movies.
- Hellraiser features Pinhead and includes eleven movies.
- And while Stephen King doesn’t have a movie franchise, many of his movies are pretty scary.
- If you are looking for classic, black-and-white films, watch movies directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
As I have gotten older, I much prefer thriller/suspense-type horror movies over those with a lot of gore.
Where to Watch
Above, I have linked where to buy the DVDs or Blu-Ray editions of the movies. These are all linked on Amazon. You can also watch many of these on Amazon Prime video.
Every year in October, popular streaming services like Netflix, Disney +, Hulu, Max, and more offer a lineup of popular Halloween movies that subscribers can watch for free.
Also, Freeform hosts 31 Nights of Halloween every October with multiple Halloween movies throughout the day and night. It offers a good mix of family-friendly and scarier options.
Tell me in the comments your favorite movies to watch for Halloween.
