Many of you know my love for Dollar Tree runs deep. I love being able to have themed dinners or plan beautiful elaborate parties. However, if you have decorated for a party or holiday, you know that it can get expensive quickly. Everything at Dollar Tree is super affordable – I mean how can you beat $1?!
I thought it would be fun to share a party or tablescape idea for each season and holiday using only items I find at Dollar Tree. Since we are getting ready to head into summer, I am sure many of you will be hosting swimming parties, backyard BBQs, and fun outdoor summer get-togethers. Today, I will be sharing how to create a pretty summer tablescape.

I started by using white gift wrap to cover the table. Using the gift wrap is an inexpensive way to have a table runner without breaking the bank. It comes in quite a few colors. You can set up coloring for the kids and simply throw it away when you are done if it gets messy.
Summer Table Centerpiece
To create the centerpiece I used a paper lantern, green pom-pom garland, and a 17-inch pink decorative pom pom.
For the plain paper lantern, I added some fabric flowers to the lantern using hot glue and a hot glue gun. Pull all off the flowers off the stems. Trim the little piece sticking out of the back so the flowers will be flush with the lantern.
Then, simply add a dab of hot glue to the flower and carefully press to the paper lantern.
To create the pom poms, make sure you start with the string or ribbon in the center of the folded tissue paper. Fan out the paper and pull each layer carefully apart. Fluff the pom pom when you are finished. This process is the same for both the large pom pom and the smaller ones.
Note: Go slow or you will rip the tissue paper. It can be helpful to pull down two layers of tissue paper at a time and then separate them to avoid tearing the tissue.
I also added some light up LED candles. I started with small round glass candle holders. I added white decorative sand to the bottom. Turn on the candle and place inside. There are so many fun designs for these little candles. I especially love the LED candles because they last a long time and you don’t have to worry about the wind blowing them out or little fingers getting burned.
Summer Place Setting
For each place setting, I used a woven pink round placemat, summertime floral print plate, and green plastic old fashioned cup.
To create the name cards for each place setting, I started with these fun flamingos.
I used a round tag and wrote the name on each one. Then I attached it to the flamingo using a small hair band.
I created an individual set of wrapped silverware for each place setting. I used the silver plastic flatware. I wrapped a knife, fork, and spoon in a white napkin.
I used a piece of green gem ribbon to secure the napkin closed. Add hot glue to connect the ends of gem ribbon together.
Then, I glued a pretty flower on each one.

Hosting a Large Summer Party
For a less expensive option, if you are throwing a party with a lot of people and don’t want to buy the acrylic plates and cups, you can purchase paper plates in the same pattern and plastic or paper cups. Instead of the silver flatware that comes in a set of 12, you can purchase coordinating plastic utensils in sets of 48.
- Cost of centerpiece items: $9.00 (same as the above)
- Cost of 14 place settings: $4.00
- 14 paper plates, 16 sets of plastic utensils, 16 plastic or paper cups, 20 napkins (not included: individual flamingo place cards, and gem ribbon and flower napkin holders)
