Last year for my niece’s birthday I made her doll clothes for her American Girl doll. When I asked my brother what she would like for this year’s birthday he told me she requested more clothes. This year I chose a new pattern to make a few pieces from. I purchased all the fabric and trim from Jo Ann’s.

I decided to make part of the outfit you see in the bottom left corner. It consisted of a long sleeve shirt, jeans and an apron. I actually chose this pattern because of all the little aprons. I love grown up ones and these little dolls ones were just too cute!

I love that you did Velco for the back of the yellow shirt. It’s easier to sew on than buttons, in my opinion. I really like the idea of making clothes for my daughter’s dolls, but because I’m so busy with work and activities for our kids, I just can’t find the time. Buying clothes directly from American Girl is expensive, so I want to find a happy medium in finding a place to buy clothes.

Thanks Cameron! It can be tough. Sewing clothes is definitely more affordable but also more time-consuming.

They look great. Don’t be afraid to try something new. That’s how we all learn. And don’t point out your little mistakes. No one is looking at that any way. And none of sew perfectly. Just keep sewing and have fun.

Thanks so much for your encouraging words DJ! I definitely try to have fun with it, even if it is sometimes frustrating for me. I point out my mistakes on here since people come to my blog for tutorials. I want to be sure they know the correct ways to do things, and what I found works and what doesn’t. Have a great weekend.

They turned out great. I love the little apron! I am still afraid of store-bought patterns, they always confuse me. I purchase e-patterns from etsy and youcanmakethis.com. You can print them as many times as you need and they usually include extensive tutorials. It’s easy to email the designers with questions, too. One of these days I’ll get brave and actually buy McCall’s or Simplicity.

Those are so cute. The ones in the catalogs are so crazy expensive so I bought some for my dd from etsy. And I sew too, but I don’t like sewing doll clothes very well.
