For those of you that have been reading my blog for a while, you already know that I choose natural cleaners that are as free of as many chemicals as possible in my home. It wasn’t always this way, though. Before I had kids, I would choose the cleaner that smelled the best or came in the prettiest packaging, regardless of what the product contained. Silly, I know!

After I had kids I became much more conscientious about the products I was using in my home. So, I started to make the shift to more natural cleaners. Many of these have little to no fragrance and that was a big shift for me to make when cleaning. My old idea of clean was that it had to smell clean to be clean.  I often used laundry detergent with the “fresh scent” for this very reason. 

Fast forward to me becoming a mom. My son developed eczema as a baby and I started trying new things to help clear up his skin. We tried different types of lotions and body washes, bathing more or less frequently, and I even tried changing my diet while I was nursing.

As I did more research, I realized my laundry detergent could be causing problems as well.  I wanted something that was hypoallergenic and proven to be gentle on skin. So, I made the switch to all® free clear detergent. My hope was that since it is 100% free of dyes or fragrance it would help clear up his skin.  Plus, it is the #1 recommended brand by dermatologists, allergists, and pediatricians.

After switching a lot of things up his skin did begin to clear. And as an added bonus, using the all® free clear detergent seemed to help my husband who has suffered from psoriasis most of his adult life. The extra dyes and perfumes can definitely have ill effects if you have sensitive skin.

As I have slowly made the shift away from using anything with a strong fragrance (or any fragrance at all) I have also noticed that I have had fewer headaches. Since having children I have become much more sensitive to smells and making this shift has really helped my whole family.

When my daughter was born, she also suffered from eczema. However, this time around I knew what to do to help relieve her symptoms. And since I was still using all® free clear detergent, I knew that was one less thing I had to worry about with her sensitive skin.

As I have gotten older, I have realized that simplifying can be so freeing. Each time I simplify a routine or what we have in our home I always feel so much better. Simplifying my cleaning routine by using less cleaners and less perfumes and dyes has benefited my entire family.

I like to purchase the large container of all® free clear detergent and all® free clear Mighty Pacs® at Sam’s Club. I shop there a few times a month and this large container lasts me a long time. I also love the ease of the push button dispenser. Be sure to follow the directions for use on the packaging exactly, and do not over use the detergent by putting too much in one load. The new high-efficiency washers need much less detergent to work effectively! Simple, right?
