Target is one of my favorite places to go shopping. Bullseye’s Playground (the Dollar Spot) has the cutest decor and craft items for each season. This year, I found some fun patriotic straws and a plain star chalkboard that was asking to be fancied up! This patriotic chalkboard star decor is a quick and easy project anyone can do.

Supplies:
- Star Chalkboard
- Red and White Striped Paper Straws
- Blue and White Star Paper Straws
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Scissors
- Ruler
I started by cutting all my straws. I used a ruler as a guide to cut the red and white striped straws 3 inches long, and the blue and white star straws 2 inches long.
Note: If you can’t find this particular chalkboard in your Target store, you can look at your local craft store to find lots of chalkboard blanks to work with.
Once I had all the straws cut out, I used my hot glue gun to glue the straws to the back of the star. Use just a little dab of glue and place the straw close to the edge of the chalkboard.
I started in the middle and alternated a red and white straw with a blue straw.
I think this project turned out really cute! It will be the perfect addition to my patriotic red white and blue decor. If you want to do this project with your kids, be sure to have a grown up do the gluing. You could also use Aleene’s Fast Grab Tacky glue, instead of the hot glue, so the kids can help! It dries fast, so it works similar to hot glue, without the heat!
I am participating in Craft Lightning. Bloggers get together to share simple and quick crafts that take less than 15 minutes to make. Thank you to our hosts, The Country Chic Cottage, 30 Minute Crafts, and Laura Kelly. Be sure to check out their blogs all week – they will be sharing lots of patriotic crafts!
