Homework Caddy Organization. Create a place to keep all your child’s most used school supplies with an inexpensive caddy from Dollar Tree.
My son started second grade last Monday and we are back to the grind with doing homework nightly.
To stay organized and have everything we need at homework time, I created a homework caddy with all the necessary supplies. This way, there are no excuses once we sit down to do homework at night. We have been using this system since last year and it works great!

I purchased this caddy from Dollar Tree. It was only one dollar. I used disposable plastic cups to separate the supplies within the caddy.
Elementary School Homework Caddy Supplies:
- pencils
- markers
- crayons
- colored pencils
- kid scissors
- pencil sharpener
- glue sticks
These supplies are sufficient for most of my son’s regular elementary school homework. My daughter (she is 4 years old) does not like to be left out and she is able to do an art project at the same time my son works on his homework.
Just for fun (and because I love to label everything), I created a printable to attach to the front.
I laminated it and punched two holes in the top. Then, I attached it to my homework bucket with zip ties.
As my kids get older I am sure our needs will change for what we need for homework, but this solution will continue to work well to keep my kids organized.
Middle or High School Homework Caddy Supplies:
- note cards
- ruler
- calculator
- protractor
- math compass
- stapler
- pens
- lined paper
- graph paper
We store our homework caddy on top of the pantry cabinet in our kitchen. We normally do homework at the kitchen table, so this works well for us.
The magazine file holds a clipboard and preschool worksheets that my daughter is working on.

Hi there! I just came across this post. I write for theloop.ca and I’m currently working on a piece called “Back to school organizing hacks”. I was wondering if I could include your portable homework caddy on the list, with one of your photos? I would of course give credit and link back to your post. Let me know, thanks!

We have homework caddys too, and I love them! I need to revamp mine before school starts again this year. I love how handy they are for my boys to grab and use for their homework. I’m sure I’ll need to change my 6th graders this year, I don’t know that he’ll be needing crayons anymore. :) I love your homework tag, and I love that it’s laminated!
