Glitter Snowflake Pillow. Create a beautiful glitter snowflake pillow using a Cricut machine and iron-on glitter.
The category for round five for Cricut Design Space Star is holiday crafts and gear. Our team theme is glitter. I have been wanting to try out the glitter iron-on from Cricut for some time now.
So, for this month’s project, I created a glitter snowflake pillow cover. I love the way this iron-on sparkles. The pictures do not do it justice!

How to Make a Glitter Snowflake Pillow
Supplies :
– Cricut Machine
– Glitter Iron-on, Silver
– Scraper Tool
– Weeding Tool
– Pillow insert
– Fabric, in your color of choice
– Sewing machine and coordinating thread
To start with you need to create a pillow cover if you do not plan to purchase a plain pillow. Making an envelope pillow cover is so easy!
Sew an Envelope Pillow Cover
Your measurements will differ depending on the size of your pillow. My pillow is 16″ x 16″. Add one inch to the height of the pillow. For the width, you will double your pillow measurement and add six inches. So, for my pillow, the fabric measurements were 17″ x 38″. Cut your fabric to the correct width.
Start by hemming the two short sides. You will fold each end under 1/2″ and then 1/2″ again. Press with your iron and then sew close to the pressed edge.
To create the envelope pillow shape, you will take your hemmed edge and center it on the back of the fabric with the right sides together on the inside. Overlap the two hemmed edges by four inches. This will create the envelope.
Pin the top and bottom edges and sew a 1/2″ seam allowance.
Turn your pillow cover right side out and press. Use your finger or a pair of scissors to gently push out the corners.
Add Glitter Iron-on Snowflakes with the Cricut Explore
Now you are ready to make your glitter snowflakes. Place the iron-on glitter shiny side down on your Cricut mat. The shiny side is the liner. The dull side is the actual iron-on material.

When you go to cut your image you will want to check the box that says “mirror-image”. For this project, it doesn’t really matter since the snowflakes look the same both ways, but it is a good habit to get into when working with iron-on.
Let the Explore cut out all the shapes. Then, pull the whole sheet off your Cricut mat. Weed off all the negative space from your liner. The weeding tool works great for this. Go slow and be patient.
Since I wanted to be able to place the snowflakes individually on my pillow, I cut the liner apart for each snowflake.
Follow the instructions to iron your material to the pillow. For mine, you hold the iron in place for 10 – 20 seconds on the liner. Flip the fabric over and iron the design from the back side for 5 – 10 seconds.
Once cooled, carefully peel back the liner. Apply additional heat to the liner if the design is not stuck completely the first time.
Add your pillow and enjoy! This glitter iron-on material is so perfect for the holidays. I love the way it sparkles. And since this is more for winter than specifically Christmas, I can leave it out on the couch all winter. I am thinking of making a second one with a pom pom fringe!
